8 Simple & Easy Ways to Drink More Water Daily

Whether you wish to admit it or not, you’re probably not drinking enough water. Consuming plenty of water is an essential piece to add to your every day habits. The cells and organs of your body need water to function properly. Water provides lubrication to your joints, helps your body digest and flush out waste, hydrates your skin, transports nutrients through the blood, and the list goes on and on and on! Ever wonder why you’re tired all the time? Try some being hydrated!

So now that you know why you should be drinking more water, here are some tips to help you do it:

1. DRINK A CUP OF WATER WHEN YOU WAKE UP

Have a glass ready at your bedside. Before sipping on your usual coffee first thing in the morning, chug a full glass of water. GOod Morning.jpg

2. SKIP THE COKE

Going to lunch with some friends? Ditch the soda and order water. You should be drinking water with all three meals. Sodas have too much sugar and too many ingredients you can’t even name. If you can’t break your soda addiction, try to choose water with just one meal a day, and take it from there. Water at Restaurant.jpg

3. TRY TEA

No, not sweet tea from Popeye’s. Actual tea leaves. Tea is just about the easiest way to add water to your life, and to add flavor to your water. Tea has an abundant amount of antioxidants and health benefits. You can use convenient tea bags, or buy full-leaf tea and bag it yourself. My favorite is green tea in the mornings with breakfast. I personally drink about 4 cups of tea a day, varying from green, hibiscus, earl grey, and ginger.

4. ADD LEMON OR OTHER FRUITS

Infused water is all the craze right now. Lemon water is particularly my favorite. I squeeze the juice of one entire lemon into a jar and drink that in the mornings. There are a ton of benefits to this. I’ll post about this soon.

5. DRINK BEFORE, DURING, & AFTER EXERCISE

You owe it to your body to consume a great deal of H2O after making to run 3 miles or lift a new PR. You should always refill your water bottle once it’s emptied. Usually I have to fill 2-3 times for an hour-long weight-lifting sesh. Choose water over sports drinks if you’re not running a marathon.

6. FIND A WATER BOTTLE THAT YOU WANT TO USE

There are several stylish reusable water bottles on the shelves these days. Find one that matches your style and fill it up! Carry it to class, to work, to the gym, to your friends, to the bathroom… okay not there, but you get the point. Take it everywhere.IMG_3993-e1385375073495.jpg

7. KEEP A PITCHER IN THE FRIDGE & EMPTY IT BEFORE YOU SLEEP

Fill a big pitcher with water (don’t cheat yourself on size!), and drink it all before bedtime. Each night refill it and leave it in the fridge overnight to cool.PItcher Lemon Water.jpg

8. DRINK A GLASS BEFORE BED

A glass of water, or a cup of chamomile tea would work. I usually prefer the latter. You might have to go to the bathroom and relieve yourself in the middle of the night, but I promise you that your body is happy with it!

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink. Make it a daily habit!

How much should you be drinking? Frankly, the simplest way to tell if you’re drinking enough is to check the toilet after you’ve gone to the bathroom. Use the chart below as a guide.

Getting the right water bottle was everything I needed to start actually drinking the stuff. Relying on those silly cups and fountains — bleh.

I got a shaker bottle with a 3 cup capacity and now I drink more than enough. The downside is of course, constant runs to the bathroom. Great post haha. P.s. I love tea.

This is most definitely helpful. As a nursing mom and just wanting to work on my overall water intake I struggle a bit sometimes I’m great other days I just don’t want to. I’m not a soda or juice drinker but I do enjoy tea so that’s great to know that that also counts during my daily water intake. Thank you and because of #1on your list I went and grabbed a glass of water this morning to start off with

While learning from Aunty Margaret Machado, amazing Hawaiian Healer, she talked about the need for plenty of water. She also said that tea is not recognized as water in the body but as food. Water with lemon is recognized as water in the body. So there are ways the body works with water that is different than beverages that have water in them.
I do not know this as exact, but it has kept me drinking clear water.
Thank you for this article and this blog! I am a water enthusiast, and advocate. Water is way cool! Thank you Cansu!
